So far, none of these are paid or affiliate or referral links. If I do start networking at that level, I’ll call it out specifically.
Culturally, we’ve let the algorithms consume so much of our lives, and replace so much of our souls. A manual list of recommendations from someone you know/like/trust is so much more valuable than whatever a megacorp gives you to try to keep you scrolling. (Sure, there’s plenty of great stuff to be found on the corporate sites, if you’re lucky, but a human recommendation is so much better.)
In no particular order, this is a non-exhaustive list of blogs I read at least occasionally:
- John Scalzi’s Whatever
- Patrick Rothfuss’ Blog
- Jenny Lawson’s The Bloggess
- Cory Doctorow’s Craphound
- Marie Vibbert’s Science Fiction. Mostly.
I also read several emailed newsletters instead of visiting websites:
- Matt Levine’s Money Stuff
- Matt Stoller’s BIG
- Bill Bishop’s Sinocism
- Sam Feller’s Awkward Engineer
- Randall Munroe’s XKCD
- Tim Cotton’s Newslog
- Ryan Holiday’s Daily Stoic
- Matt Kirkland’s Dracula Daily
- Ishmael’s Whale Weekly
My primary news services are:
- New York Times
- NPR
- Puck
- Semafor
- The 51st
I also support several folks on Patreon, but that fluctuates so go see my profile.
