New York Times Faces Quiz

I consume a lot of online text news media. Most of it is via emailed newsletters (strongly recommend NYT’s ‘The Morning’). Sometimes these newsletters have pictures of people, and sometimes those pictures have captions telling you who they are.

Once a year, the New York Times does a faces quiz, to see if you can type the name of famous faces from that year’s coverage. Here is this year’s link:

The 2023 Faces Quiz

This year, I got 33 of 52 using 15 hints.

I knew Evan Gershkovich (pictured above courtesy of Getty) with a hint, which only 9% of readers got right. I definitely didn’t recognize his face, but knew the name from context. I was not able to spell the last name right, but “Evan G” was close enough.

The best-known name I got wrong was Tuckhead Carlface (I don’t want his name in my Al-Gore-Rhythm) because I rushed and guessed Shauwn Handy instead, but should have known better.

The second-best-known error I made was guessing the previous POTUS kid instead of the current POTUS kid, because the hint “under investigation” didn’t help me. I wonder if this was designed to show some kind of political bias?

I recognized Ayo Edebiri but didn’t get the spelling close enough.

I forgot Fran Drescher’s name and “The Nanny” wasn’t a valid answer.

Evidently my spelling of Vivo Ramseykay was too far off (even though my attempt was way closer than this silliness).

Oh, and his real name is Paul Rubens – “Herman” doesn’t get you there.

Everyone else that I missed was kinda expected. Music and sports and actors that I just don’t care about. Honestly I was kinda embarassed to know Kelce’s name, but that is because I have read lots of interesting articles about the financial and PR implications of their relationship.

Take the quiz and leave your results and observations in the comments!
